Farm Fresh Boiled Eggs

Hello to recipe Wednesday with Victoria! Today, we are going to start things off super simple with my go-to quick snack. I make these every week as a quick and easy source of protein.

Boiled eggs? Why do you ask would I need share this tutorial when it’s a super basic kitchen skill? Well, if you’re like us, you’ve likely found boiled eggs can cause trouble with sticky shells. Especially with farm fresh eggs, it seems the eggshells want to stay in place. This causes you to mess up the boiled egg and ruins the whole experience.

So, you want to save time, avoid the sticky shell problem, and have the BEST and easiest to peel boiled eggs…then look no further. So, let me introduce you to my 5-5-10 method.

What You Need for these Eggs

Equipment:

  • Instant Pot with trivet
  • Bowl (make sure it’s pretty large)
  • Oven mitts
  • Microfiber towel
  • Paper towels

Ingredients:

  • 12 Farm fresh eggs
  • Water
  • Ice

Steps to Make this Recipe

  1. I like to rinse my farm fresh eggs in cold water and wipe off any debris with a microfiber towel. I usually use the oldest eggs we have that we already have stored in the fridge.
  2. As I rinse each egg, I place them in the Instant Pot with the trivet inserted.
  3. Add 1 cup of water.
  4. Use egg button or pressure cook for 5 min.
  5. Let eggs slow release for 5 min/
  6. Prepare bowl with ice water (use lots of ice). DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!!!!
  7. Once slow release timer is at 5min quick release, unlock lid, use oven mitts to pick up trivet handles and place eggs in trivet carefully into ice bath (If your trivet doesn’t have handles, use a pasta scoop or tongs to lift individual eggs out of the instant pot)
  8. Set a timer for at least 10mins and your eggs are ready to peel! Don’t worry if you leave them longer -it’s OK!
  9. Optional: I peel eggs in the ice bath and dry them with a paper towel. I also like to put a paper towel in the storage container to absorb any extra moisture. I like to then dump left over ice bath bowl with egg shells in my garden.
